Description : Expansion of an existing hospital building required grout injection for soil stabilization in the construction area. Concrete was injected using a powerful ‘stinger’ (Fig. 1 on right). Sensitive MRI machinery required vibration to be monitored and nearby subway lines and infrastructure necessitated displacement monitoring. 10 SAAs were located around the project site to serve both needs (Fig. 1 on left).

The serial RS485 cables on the arrays, and a connector/switch system, enabled reading the arrays with a laptop near the array, or from a central data hut, with switchable selection of arrays. Measurand SAARecorder software with the optional Vibration Analysis package was used to monitor acceleration content vs. frequency (Fig. 2) along x, y and z axes at selected elevations. SAARecorder software was also used for local determination of 3D shape and deformation, and to generate alarms upon exceeding a deformation limit. Data were also exported to enable collation, calculation, and analysis.
