SAA
SAA is a rope-like array of sensors and microprocessors that fits into a small (27 mm; 1.049" ID) casing. Any deformation that moves the casing is accurately measured as a change in shape of the SAA.
Vibrations may also be measured, at multiple points. Most SAAs are shipped on a reel, can be handled by one person, and can be 100 m (330') long.
SAA is re-useable. The same array can be used for horizontal or vertical measurements.

SAA tracks major landslide: Automated deformation monitoring instrument, SAA, played an important role in the decision to re-route traffic from a four-lane highway just days before a major 3m (9’) drop in elevation and destruction of the pavement.
Measurand is a participant in the IJKdijk project in the Netherlands, devoted to development of alarm systems for dikes. The dikes in the Netherlands are being upgraded in anticipation of rising sea levels and the gradual subsidence of the tectonic plate underlying that country.
Measurand is a participant in the Sensor Web Automation (SWAN) project. SWAN is sponsored by GEOIDE, a member of the Canadian Centres of Excellence.
