Description: Fig. 1: Three vertical SAAFs were installed in an experimental dike. Loading of the dike with water-filled containers caused collapse. Data were collected before, during and after the collapse, for analysis of slope movement. Fig. 2: Before the dike was built, its foundation material was tested to collapse. In this test, horizontal and vertical SAAFs were used to track the failure event.

SAAs were one of the very few instruments that survived the collapse.
