Description : A clay slope between a road and a river (Fig. 1) has had two major failures in the past century, producing scarps over 3m (10’) high, and endangering the roadway. Geotechnical studies (Fig. 2) indicate two major shear zones. The deepest one caused a failure ca. 2003. Since then, three SAAs, each 24m (80’) long have been installed to monitor the slope, using data loggers, a wireless cellnet modem, and solar power (Fig. 3).
